The Tampa Police K-9 Unit was established in 1982 and has been serving the community with dignity and pride since its inception. Currently, the unit is comprised of twenty one K-9 teams who all serve in different capacities to include patrol functions, explosive detection, and narcotics detection. These K-9 teams perform many different functions on a daily basis. They are out patrolling the streets, apprehending criminal suspects and sweeping large scale venues for potential explosive threats. In addition to their daily functions, they also conduct K-9 demonstrations upon request, and partner with different community organizations to educate and inform the community about the positive impact these K-9’s have in keeping the community a safe place to live, work and play.
Rise Tampa K-9 club is a non-profit organization that supports the Tampa Police K-9 Unit in their efforts to better the community. With generous donations, they are able to provide lifesaving equipment for the K-9 teams, state of the art training equipment/facilities and critical medical needs. Recently, funds provided by Rise Tampa K-9 club assisted in the construction of the phase 1 training area, with phase 2 to begin in the near future.
