Since the 1930’s the Tampa Police Department has fielded a Pistol Team made up of the best shooters to represent the finest police department in the country. The current-day Tampa Police Pistol team has continued that legacy. The team competes in local matches every month, and takes part in regional competitions several times a year held in South Carolina, Alabama, Oklahoma, and other states. Every year the team has traveled to the National Police Shooting Championships in places like Albuquerque, New Mexico, and Pearl, Mississippi. Team members compete against hundreds of the finest police shooters from across the country, and internationally, firing matches with handguns, rifles, and shotguns.

In addition to competition, the team gives back to the department and community through training. Many of the team members are certified instructors. They use the skills and knowledge they have acquired to teach other officers to properly and safely handle their firearms, and to increase their proficiency. The team has also coordinated and instructed complimentary civilian classes in the safe handling and storage of firearms in their homes.
